Privacy Policy
The short version: reading this site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and collects nothing about you. Signing in to the member portal is the one exception, and it is described below.
Last updated 24 August 2026.
What this site collects
From the public pages, nothing. There are no cookies, no analytics, no advertising pixels and no tracking scripts of any kind on the pages you can read without signing in. We do not build a profile of visitors, and we have no way of knowing who has read these pages.
The public pages carry no contact form. If you want to reach us, you phone the office or send an email, and we hold that message the same way we would hold a letter.
Two pages do have forms, because they have to: the member portal, where you sign in and can make a payment, and the office page used by shul staff. Those are described under Member accounts.
Fonts and images are served from this site
The typefaces and graphics used here are hosted on our own server rather than loaded from an outside network. Your browser does not contact Google, a font service or a content delivery network in order to display this page.
The map
Our Contact page can display a Google map, but it is not loaded until you press the button asking for it. If you press it, Google receives your IP address and the fact that you were on that page, and their own privacy policy applies from that point. If you would rather not, the address and directions are written out in plain text on the same page.
Links to other services
Some links take you off this website: our WhatsApp group, and the payment pages for membership dues, which are hosted by Intuit QuickBooks. Once you follow one of those links you are on someone else's system, under their privacy policy and terms, and what you enter there is held by them rather than by us. We do not receive analytics or visitor data back from them.
Member accounts
The member portal is part of this website, at /portal. It used to be planned as a separate application on its own subdomain; it is not, and this notice covers it.
You sign in with your email address. We send a link to that address rather than asking you to keep a password. While you are signed in, your browser holds a session token so the site knows it is still you. It is kept in the tab's own storage rather than in a cookie, which means it is discarded when you close the tab, and it is not readable by any other site.
Membership records, pledges and payment history are held in our database, which is hosted by Supabase and is not part of the public pages. What you can see there is limited to your own account by the database itself, not merely by what the page chooses to show you.
If you make a payment, we record the amount, what it was for, the name and email you give, and any dedication you write, together with a reference from the payment processor. We never see or hold your card number. That is entered on the processor's own page and stays with them.
Server logs
Like any website, ours sits on a web host that keeps short-lived technical logs, which may include IP addresses, timestamps and browser type. These exist so the host can keep the site online and defend it against attack. They are not used to identify visitors, are not combined with any other record, and are not shared except where the law requires it.
Children
This site is not directed at children and knowingly collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Your rights in California
California residents have rights under the CCPA and CPRA to know what personal information a business holds about them, to have it deleted, to correct it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. If you have only read the public pages, we hold nothing about you and there is nothing to disclose or delete. If you have signed in to the member portal or made a payment, we hold the records described above. Either way, write to us and we will tell you what we have and remove what we can, and you will not be treated differently for asking.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. Questions about privacy can go to info@shaareitefila.org or (323) 938-7147, or by post to Congregation Shaarei Tefila, 7269 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036.
